Oathbound is a progressive metalcore band from Seattle, crafting emotionally charged music rooted in raw human experience. Blending intricate riffs with soaring, anthemic synths, the band confronts themes of heartbreak, loss, addiction, and trauma without flinching—offering catharsis, connection, and a reminder that even in life’s darkest moments, something meaningful still remains.

Originally from Eagle River, Alaska, CJ began writing songs at just eight years old and was performing those songs in a sawdust-floored dive bar by the time she was sixteen. Her lyricism and vocal style draw inspiration from artists like Keith Buckley, Josh Scogin, and Hayley Williams — performers known for blending literary storytelling with raw, emotionally charged performances. After moving to Portland, she continued pursuing music with the melodic post-hardcore band Divides before launching a solo project under the name S!ege. Following several years away from music entirely, joining Oathbound didn’t feel like a comeback so much as an arrival — the moment everything quietly fell back into place.

Taylor grew up in a house where music was always playing, from Fleetwood Mac and Stevie Nicks to Tom Petty and The Traveling Wilburys. His first real introduction to heavy metal came when he heard Metallica’s …And Justice for All, an album that instantly hooked him and opened the door to an entirely new world of music. After buying his first electric guitar for $80 with money he earned shoveling snow, he taught himself by learning songs from bands like Metallica and Slayer. Taylor spent years playing in bands before stepping away to focus on education, eventually earning a degree in civil engineering. It didn’t take long to realize that something was missing — writing and performing music. That realization ultimately led to the creation of Oathbound. Outside of music he’s a die-hard Seattle Mariners fan who spent much of his youth splitting time between baseball and guitar.

Viktor’s introduction to music came early, growing up in a house filled with Guns N’ Roses and Mötley Crüe thanks to his dad. With a piano at his grandparents’ house and classic rock always playing, music was a constant presence growing up. At eleven years old he picked up guitar largely to one-up his best friend, but the instrument quickly became something far more permanent. Over time his tastes evolved from classic heavy metal into modern metal, drawing inspiration from bands like Amon Amarth and Sabaton. When he’s not writing riffs or performing with Oathbound, Viktor spends his time working on cars — a hobby he jokes exists primarily to make sure he never achieves financial stability.

Steve’s musical journey started around five or six years old when he received a small keyboard for his birthday. At first it was mostly used for airplane noises and general sonic chaos, but eventually he figured out how to play “Ode to Joy,” followed not long after by Salt-N-Pepa’s “Push It.” Realizing both songs were in the same key felt like unlocking a musical secret. At twelve he received a bass guitar for Christmas and immediately began teaching himself by learning Blink-182 and AFI songs from tab. High school introduced him to Drop D tuning, which helped shape his heavier musical direction. After stepping away from music to focus on raising his son, Steve returned to performing years later and eventually joined Oathbound. Music remains the place where he finds clarity, purpose, and a bit of peace.

Travis “Traviee” Morlan has been playing drums for over twenty years, starting on a bucket drum kit at just three years old before receiving his first real kit at seven. By ten he had already expanded into a massive double-kick setup, and at eleven he received his first DW drum kit through the Make-A-Wish Foundation — a moment that deeply shaped his life and musical journey. Travis was born with a rare bone disease called Ollier’s Disease, and doctors once told his parents he might never walk or use his left arm. Despite living with chronic pain, he has spent his life touring, performing, and contributing to the music scene across the West Coast. Travis believes his purpose is to inspire others to push through difficult circumstances and pursue what they love, no matter what obstacles stand in the way.
Oathbound began with guitarist Taylor Harper, whose creative drive had long been buried beneath spreadsheets and concrete. Working full-time as a civil engineer, Harper climbed the corporate ladder only to realize it leaned against the wrong wall. Returning to music with renewed purpose, he began writing the early blueprints for what would become Oathbound.
Seeking a collaborator, Harper connected with Viktor Schultz, a guitarist he knew through a family friend. Born in California and raised largely in Russia, Schultz developed his musical voice across cultures while exploring both music and computer science. When the two shared early demos, the creative chemistry was immediate—technical, emotionally resonant, and forward-thinking.
The project gained momentum when original vocalist Kalyan Lopez responded to a post Harper made in a Seattle musicians group. Lopez soon penned the lyrics for “All For You,” a track that would come to embody Oathbound’s emotional ethos and sonic identity. Around the same time, drummer Rishab Thadani, newly relocated from Dallas, joined after a garage jam session that instantly confirmed his surgical precision and stylistic flair were a perfect match for the band’s progressive edge.
In early 2025, Oathbound entered a new chapter. Founding bassist John Padgett stepped away to explore new creative paths, opening the door for seasoned musician Steve Schwarz. With a commanding stage presence and deep-rooted groove, Schwarz revitalized the band’s low end and brought new momentum to both live performances and studio work.
When drummer Thadani later relocated back to Texas, Oathbound once again adapted—welcoming Travis Morlan behind the kit. A Portland native and long-standing fixture in the Pacific Northwest metal scene, Morlan had previously filled in during a western U.S. tour with the band. His relentless, hard-hitting style and commanding presence injected fresh energy into Oathbound, strengthening the band’s live intensity and studio precision.
When Oathbound welcomed vocalist CJ Brunke, the band’s next evolution came into focus. Known for her raw, kinetic stage presence and emotionally charged performances, Brunke brought a commanding new energy to the lineup—cementing the band’s current form and pushing its live intensity to new heights.
Together, Harper, Schultz, Schwarz, Morlan, and Brunke now define Oathbound’s renewed era of focus, growth, and creative evolution.
Oathbound’s debut EP, Until It’s Gone, released on September 13, 2024, marked a bold entry into the metalcore scene. Garnering nearly 400,000 streams on Spotify, the EP resonated deeply with listeners and helped establish a passionate and growing fanbase.
Now signed to Eclipse Records, Oathbound is preparing to release their first full-length album, Colors In Grey, scheduled for March 6, 2026. With a busy run of live shows across the western United States and a commitment to high-quality visuals and transparent storytelling, the band continues to expand both its sound and its reach.
For Oathbound, this is only the beginning. With eyes set on nationwide touring and continued creative growth, their mission remains unchanged: to offer catharsis, hope, and connection through music that speaks from—and to—the soul.
